How To Create A Post In Wordpress

1. When you log into your Wordpress website you will be taken to the dashboard.  Hover over the ‘Posts’ tab and a arrow pointing down will appear on the right-hand side of the tab.  Click this arrow.

2. Click on ‘Add New’.

3. Now you can add your post title in the first text box.  Below that, add your post content into the large text area.

4. On the right hand side, define the tags for your post.  Tags are like keywords for you posts that help people search for your post, or find other posts on the same topics.

5. On the right side of the page, choose your post category.  You can learn more about categories here: Creating Wordpress Categories.

6. Right below your title you will find the permalink to your post.  Permalink is short for ‘Permanent Link’.  This is the url to this exact post once you publish the post.  You can learn more about creating better permalinks here:  Customizing Your Wordpress Permalinks.

7. Finally at the top right of the page we have the publish panel.  From here your main three options are save your post as a draft, preview your post or publish the post.

You also have the option to change the published status to ‘Draft’, ‘Pending Review’ or ‘Published’.

The visibility option allows you to password protect your post, keep it private or make it ’sticky’ by sticking it to the front page.

And finally, the ‘Published on’ date allows you to set your post to publish automatically at a future time.
