Use Google to Find the Favicon of Any Site
November 23rd 2011I have often visited websites that used favicons next to comments or links to visually represent websites and wondered how they did this. Well, a few days ago I stumbled across a post by @labnol explaining how to retrieve the favicon image for any site using the Google S2 Converter.
I didn't even know this service existed!
Long story short, I was stuck in a meeting the next day (for the entire day) and needed to write some code to stay sain. So I created FaviconFinder.com during that meeting.
I'd like to add some basic tools at some point such as download links or plugin versions to use with comments etc. but that requires free time. Maybe the next time I have a full day of meetings I try to knock that out. It does look like there is a WordPress plugin for this technique: Favicon Images for Comments
